| How can I check for lead paint around my home? |
|
Lead is a toxic metal that may be found in objects in and around our homes. Lead poisoning causes a range of health issues and children under age six are at the most risk. If you live in or are planning to live in a home built before 1978, it is a good idea to check for lead paint. In general, paint that is in good condition is not a hazard. However, if it is peeling or flaking in any way- it can be hazardous to your family's health. You can purchase a simple kit for $10- 12 that will include six "swabs" that can be used to detect lead in almost any surface instantly. If you are still unsure, these swabs can be lab tested for an additional fee.
