How can I help prevent mice from entering my home?

With rodents, the best offense is a good defense.  Inspect your home for cracks and holes where mice could enter.

Remember, if a mouse can get its head in, it can get its body in.  Plug holes with steel wool (they can’t chew through it), or use expanding spray foam for larger applications.  Some people say that peppermint is a good deterrent as mice can’t stand the smell.  A few teaspoons of peppermint oil mixed with a few cups of water and sprayed around areas where they are likely to enter may help keep them away.  Finally, there are some of us here that swear by the “sonic” pest chasers.  These plug into the wall and emit a sound that keeps mice away, but doesn’t bother pets or humans.
